Data View Layouts, Filters, Grouping and Calculations
Reference for the data view toolbar in BackOps, covering layouts, search, filters, grouping, properties, column menus, footer calculations and charts.
This page is the reference for the controls every data view shares. The same toolbar sits above crew, tasks, events and the other tables in BackOps; each page decides which layouts it offers and which columns it has.
Layouts
| Layout | Draws each record as | Needs |
|---|---|---|
| Table | A row with a column per property. Always available. | Nothing |
| List | A compact row. | Nothing |
| Calendar | A card on the day of its date. | A title and a date property |
| Gantt | A bar on a timeline. See the Gantt layout. | A title and a date property |
| Kanban | A card in a lane, one lane per value of a property such as task status. | A title and a lane property |
Change the layout from View settings > Layout, or when creating a view. A layout the page cannot draw is shown disabled, with the reason when you hover over it. Tasks, for example, offer List, Calendar, Gantt and Kanban.
Search
The search box is a quick find across the records on the page. It is not saved with a view, and it clears when you move to another event or organization.
Filter
Filter adds rules on any filterable property, such as status is Done or call time is before 9 AM. For more complex conditions, the filter builder can Add filter rule and Add filter group: a group holds its own set of rules, so you can combine conditions such as "department is Audio, and either status is Blocked or the due date has passed." Groups do not nest inside other groups. Remove filters clears them.
Group By
Group by collects records under a heading for each value of a property, such as tasks by department. Expand all groups and Collapse all groups open or close every group in one action, and Clear grouping removes it.
Properties
Properties lists every property the page has, with a search box. Turn a property on or off to show or hide its column. On pages that allow it, drag a column header to reorder columns.
Column Menu
Each column header in a table has a menu to sort ascending or descending, filter on that property, pin the column to the left so it stays in place while you scroll, hide the property, and add a calculation.
Calculations
A table can show a footer under any column. Choose Calculate in the column menu, or Add calculation in the footer, and pick from Count all, Count empty, Count filled, Percent empty, Percent filled, Sum, Average, Min and Max. Sum, Average, Min and Max apply to number columns. Calculations follow your filters, so they total what you are looking at.
Charts
Charts plot the records currently in view. Turn them on from View settings with Enable charts, then Add chart and choose a type: vertical bar, horizontal bar, line, area, donut, radial, stacked radial, progress or count. Show charts and Hide charts in the toolbar toggle them without removing them.
Conditional Color
View settings > Conditional color colors records that meet a rule, so the late tasks or unconfirmed crew stand out without a filter hiding everything else.
Saving What You Built
Layout, filters, sorting, grouping, visible and pinned properties, column order and widths, calculations, charts and conditional colors are all part of a view. When you change a saved view, a Save view button appears beside the tabs; until you select it, the change is not kept, and Revert changes in the menu beside it puts the view back. To keep the arrangement as a new tab instead, see saved views.
