Adding Google Docs, Figma and other links to the Drive

Add a link to a document that lives in Google Drive, Figma, Canva, OneDrive or another tool, so it sits in the BackOps Drive folder next to your uploaded files.

Not every event document is a file you can upload. The run of show is a shared Google Sheet, the stage design is in Figma, the brand kit is in Canva. A link puts that document in the right BackOps Drive folder anyway, as a file with its provider's icon, so the team finds it where they expect it and always opens the live original rather than a stale export.

Open the folder

In Documents, then Files, open the folder the link belongs in.

Add it

Click New, then Add link, paste the URL and give it a name.

Paste the full address; BackOps adds https:// if it is missing and suggests a name from the link. Only http and https addresses are accepted. BackOps recognizes many providers and shows their icon: Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Drive and Calendar, Figma, Canva, OneDrive and SharePoint, Dropbox, YouTube, Vimeo, Loom, Miro, Airtable, X and Outlook Calendar. Anything else shows as an external link.

Click the link to open its page. For Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Drive files and Calendar, YouTube, Vimeo, Loom, Miro boards, Airtable shares, posts on X and Outlook calendars, the document opens framed inside BackOps so you can work in it without leaving. Others show that they cannot be embedded and offer Open link. Open in the provider's name opens the original in a new tab.

Framed documents only work over https. You still need access in the other tool: BackOps shows the document, it does not grant permission to it. Safari and Firefox restrict third-party cookies, so a framed document can appear signed out there; open it in a new tab instead.

A link lives in folders, can be moved, renamed and deleted, and can be shared and given a sharing link like any file. To point it somewhere else, choose Edit file and change the URL. A link has no versions or formats and takes up no storage, because the document stays in the other tool.
