Location Types and Attributes: Define What Each Place Holds

How to create location types, organize their attributes into sections, choose attribute types, and what happens when you delete a type or attribute that is in use.

A location type describes a kind of place, such as a venue, a warehouse, or an office, and decides which details a location of that type shows. The details themselves are attributes, kept in one library and placed onto types in sections. Organization admins manage both under Settings › Types › Locations, which has a Types tab and an Attributes tab.

Create Attributes

On the Attributes tab, add an attribute with a name and a type. Choose the type carefully: a rename later changes only the name, never the type or its options.

Build a Type

Create the type

On the Types tab, add a type with a name, an icon, and a color. It starts with one section named Details.

Add sections

Add sections to group related attributes, such as "Load-in" or "Power". Rename, remove, and drag sections into order.

Place attributes

Add attributes from the library into each section and drag them into order. Archived attributes cannot be placed.

Removing an attribute from a section leaves it in the library and keeps the values locations already hold.

Deleting Types and Attributes

BackOps protects data that is in use:

  • A type that any location uses is archived instead of deleted. Those locations keep their type and values, but the type is no longer offered when adding a location or changing a location's type. A type nobody uses is deleted with its sections.
  • An attribute that any location holds a value for is archived instead of deleted. An attribute with no values is deleted.

Location types carry attributes only. They have no roles or effects.
