Setting up surfaces and scheduling content on screens

Add the screens, LED walls and displays at your event as surfaces, then schedule content onto each one with start and end times on a timeline.

A surface is a place content appears: an LED wall, a video screen, a projector, a digital sign, or a print area. A content block puts one content item on one surface for a window of time. Together they make the screen schedule for the show.

Adding a Surface

Open the Surfaces tab

In the event sidebar, click Content Management, then the Surfaces tab.

Add the surface

Click Add surface and give it a name, such as "Main stage LED wall".

Place it

Optionally choose the Area it belongs to, describe the Exact location in your own words ("Upstage center, 4 m trim"), and pick a Raster map, a file from the event Drive, usually a map image, that shows where it is.

Leave the area empty for a surface that is not tied to one area, such as a set of lobby screens across the venue. A surface has no fields for resolution or format; put technical specs in its description.

Scheduling Content on a Surface

Open the surface

On the Surfaces tab, click the surface to open its page.

Add a block

Click Add content block and choose the Content to show.

Set the times

Set a Start time and an End time, or leave both empty if the timing is not known yet.

The start and end go together: set both or neither, and the start cannot be after the end. Blocks on a surface can overlap; BackOps does not check for clashes, so a timeline with two blocks stacked at the same moment is how you spot one. The same content item can be scheduled on as many surfaces, and as many times, as you need.

To change a block, open it from the surface's timeline and pick different content or times. A block cannot be moved to another surface; delete it and add it on the other surface. Deleting a block removes only that schedule entry, not the content item.

Reading the Schedule

The Surfaces tab opens on a timeline of every block on every surface, one lane per surface, with a calendar view as an alternative. You can drag and resize blocks there, and click an empty spot to add one. Each surface's own page shows its blocks on a timeline sorted by start time, with Search content blocks... to find one.

Deleting a Surface

Deleting a surface also deletes every content block scheduled on it. The content items themselves are kept. Surfaces cannot be deleted from the Content Management screens today.
